Competitive

U11-U19

Boys & Girls

For the 2026-2027 Competitive Soccer season, U11-U19 (5th - 12th grade),

US Soccer is moving to school-year age groups (Birthdates Aug 1 - July 31). This replaces the current calendar-year system and helps players stay with more of their school peers, improves social alignment, and supports long-term development. Like past years, teams will still be formed based on either a player's age, player's development, or ability. Our goal is to create environments where players can thrive, be challenged, and, most importantly, enjoy the game.

The season kicks off with our Steamboat Mountain Soccer Tournament, July 31-Aug 2, 2026. League play runs from mid-August through October, 2026 and from March to May, 2027. The season for high school players is Fall 2026 for girls and Spring 2027 for boys.

The Competitive Program is a full-year fall & spring season commitment for players U11-14. It is designed for players interested in playing at a higher level of competition under the guidance of a paid coach.  Games are played in a home/away format with opponents in Colorado and Wyoming.

In the Competitive Program, families are expected to travel to the Denver area or mountain towns for away games. Home games will be played in Steamboat Springs.

There is a mandatory player placement process for all competitive players which will be held May 20 for U11-14 and May 21 for U15-19. Players will be placed by development level, age, and ability level. They can move from one team to another based on development throughout the year.

At the competitive level, playing time is shared, but it is not equal. Playing time is at the coach's discretion and takes into consideration absenteeism, tardiness, or general behavioral issues, in addition to the skill of the player, the quality of the opponent, and the competition.

For questions or more information regarding our Competitive program, please email our Technical Director, Hobey Early, at techdir@steamboat-soccer.com

  • Premier-level divisions require state association approval for placement and movement.

  • Effort, attitude, and overall behavior
  • Player skill level and game performance
  • Strength of the opponent and competitive needs of the match

Our

Philosophy

Let’s inspire our players & coaches to lead with integrity and be respectful, responsible members of our soccer community. We can be fierce competitors and great sports.

Please take time to talk with your players about what it means to be a good teammate—showing respect for themselves, their peers, opponents, referees, and coaches alike.

Encourage accountability: own your mistakes, give thoughtful, kind feedback, and be open to receiving it too.

Focus on what you can control, and always strive to be the best version of yourself—on and off the field!

Game

 Schedule

 &

Travel Commitment

  • The majority of games are played on Saturdays, with some games scheduled on Sundays.
  • Teams have four home games (Emerald Park) and four away games per season Fall & Spring Season.
  • Most games take place in the Denver metro area, but teams should be prepared to travel to locations such as Vail, Grand Junction, Pueblo, Wyoming, or CO Springs.
  • All players are expected to travel to ALL away games as part of their team commitment.
  • Our coaches work hard to consolidate away games into just two weekends to minimize travel, and while this is often successful, occasional challenges like weather, field or referee availability, and Spring Break conflicts can make it difficult.

Tournament Participation

&

Costs

  • Each competitive team receives a list of recommended tournaments based on their age group and competition level.
  • U11-U12 teams primarily compete in local in-state tournaments.
  • U13-U14 teams may be recommended for out-of-state tournaments.
  • U15-U19 teams are encouraged to participate in an international trip to Spain.
  • All SSC teams are registered to participate in the Steamboat Mountain Soccer Tournament in August, which is included in your program fees.
  • State Cup, Presidents Cup, Centennial Cup, and any additional tournaments are an additional cost, and families are asked to cover the tournament registration fee as well as any coaches' travel expenses for these tournaments.

Work

Deposit & Volunteer Commitment

As a non-profit organization, we depend on and greatly appreciate the support of our families who volunteer. Revenue from the Steamboat Mountain Soccer Tournament, Soccer Ball, Soccer Academy, and Raffle helps reduce player fees.

  • A work deposit of $200 per player (maximum of $400 per family) is required to encourage volunteerism.
  • Work deposits are due at Player Placements and will be held, not deposited, unless the family chooses not to fulfill their volunteer requirement.
  • Each family is required to volunteer 4 hours per player to have their deposit returned.
  • Sign up for Volunteer hours in the Playmetrics App. Your volunteer hours are tracked in your account.
