SSC Youth Council

The SSC Youth Council gives 11-19 year old athletes a voice in shaping the future of Steamboat Soccer Club and our community. Through regular meetings and hands-on projects, youth develop leadership, communication, fundraising, marketing, and teamwork skills while working alongside peers and supportive adults.

Youth Council members identify opportunities they care about and take the lead in making them happen—from community outreach and fundraising to events, partnerships, and efforts supporting Together We Turf and Lockhart Fields. It’s a place for young people to build confidence, learn new skills, and turn their ideas into action.

Young voices. Real leadership. Lasting impact.

Participation Match Campaign

Raised $43,000 through the Participation Match Campaign! The impact of their efforts secured a $50,000 matching gift. That means your work turned into $93,000 toward the new fields. That is an amazing accomplishment!

YVCF IMPACT100

Earned outside recognition as a Yampa Valley Community Foundation IMPACT100 semifinalist. The Youth Council was selected as one of just 10 nonprofits to give an elevator pitch on August 12 at 5:00 p.m. at Mythology. They are competing for a chance to advance to the final presentation and potentially win a $10,000 grant for TWT.

World Cup Watch Parties

World Cup Watch Parties were a huge success! These events brought people from our community together around the game while raising nearly $7,000 for the campaign. They also worked with local businesses to collect silent auction items for the World Cup Final event at Old Town Pub.

Celebrate Arts Week

Our friends at Pine Moon Fine Art Gallery are teaming up with our Youth Council for a special community art project - Create a square for a community flag. We’re asking participants to share one word that represents a life lesson they have learned through sports. Every word will become part of a larger piece celebrating the impact youth sports have on our community. Giving kids a chance to be creative, express themselves, and learn lessons that go far beyond the field. That’s something sports and art have in common.

Community Canvas Projects

Partnered with local artists to paint 16 soccer balls that will be auctioned off at the club’s Soccer Ball fundraiser on August 21st.

Creating Marketing Materials and Social Media Posts

Learning how to make short grant videos, creating marketing posters, banners, and watch party social media posts.

“Honestly, I learned more from this than I expected, things I know I’ll carry with me,” said Youth Council member Mathilda Spaustat. “But the biggest thing is just knowing my club believed we could actually contribute, not just show up.”

Steamboat Soccer Club Director Linda John. “It’s about empowering young people to have a voice in their community and helping them develop skills that will serve them long after their playing days are over.”
